Amy Hissom was born and raised in East Liverpool and currently lives in her family home that is located on the lower border of Thompson Park and was purchased by her great-grandparents in 1923. Growing up where Thompson park has been her back yard, Amy always dreamed of seeing more things done with Thompson Park’s Outdoor Amphitheater in terms of showcasing locally talented individuals.
She started playing the guitar almost 20 years ago under the guidance of Danny Pipes and James Adkins who was taught by local legendary Bill Brown. Although her talent does not reflect theirs in the least, her love for music and art will never change.
Amy brings to the table an Associate’s Degree in Computer Technology with a concentration in Internet and Multimedia Technology (2009), a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (2011), and a Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Instructional Technology (2014), all earned from Kent State University.
She has gained plenty of real-world experience as a Freelance Web Developer over the past 10 years. She is a 1985 graduate of East Liverpool High School who raised five of her own children; Richard Jr., Jason, Dustin, Justin, and Jessica, has eleven grandchildren with one on the way.
Amy wants to see great opportunities for self-discovery to be available locally, not only for her children and grandchildren, but for the community as a whole. She believes that each person is a unique individual and it is her desire, not only as an educator, but as a resident of East Liverpool, to help them meet their fullest potential emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially. Amy feels that this can be accomplished by establishing an environment where there are programs available that will provide such opportunities and that allows natural curiosity and promotes respect for all things and all people. She feels that having the opportunity to be involved with things that are meaningful and relevant to one’s life and interests is equally important to self-discovery.
Amy stresses how imperative it is for the youth of today to have the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations in order to construct knowledge. She says the same is true for lifetime-learning adults. She hopes that many members of the East Liverpool and surrounding areas will take advantage of those opportunities made available by ELGT by joining the Adult and Junior Groups of Volunteers.
It is Amy’s goal to combine her range of experience with her ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent individual who will make a positive contribution to the City of East Liverpool.

Have you thought about community plays ?
Hi Leslie! Sorry for taking so long to reply. I have actually thought of them. We recently started a tri-state community youth choir and we are working on putting together and ELGT Band. I’m hoping that the choir becomes a show choir in the future and the band will be performing with them. Who knows where it will lead from there. It would be awesome to actually have and ELGT theater group as well!
